Question
I am a senior in high school and i am interested in becoming a nutritionist. The college i plan on attending does not offer a degree in dietetics. What degree could i major in that would be an equivalent to a degree in dietetics?

Answer
Hello Sylvia!

Thank you for your nutrition question. I am glad that you are interested in a career in nutrition.  Ask your college advisor if a degree in "Nutrition Food Science" is offered.  Many of the food science courses are very similar to the dietetics degree.  This way if you decided to attend a college which does offer dietetics some of the credits could transfer. Check out www.eatright.org and click the "careers and students" page for a list of dietetic colleges in your area.
I would also recommend checking out my book "Ask the Nutritionists: Answers to Your Nutrition Questions" by George Rapitis available at www.authorhouse.com, online, or at your favorite bookstore. This book can help you see the types of questions you will be receiving from people about nutrition. You will find it very informative!

Happy New Year
George Rapitis, Bsc. Nutritionist
