Organic versus Healthy - whats the difference?

Question
Hello,

I recently discovered a WHOLE FOODS organic store in my area.  I am a 22 year old college student and I found this store interesting, yet expensive.  I have NO IDEA if there is a huge, or very little difference in organic foods vs traditional grocery food.  I am asking advice in the most cost effective healthy food you would suggest.  More or less, I would like to know what foods I absolutely should buy organic, and which foods I can actually get by a bit cheaper and not matter that much. THANK YOU!

Answer
Eric,

Generally, human body can handle a lot of not-too-much harmful substances and most fresh produce in regular groceries should be OK if you are healthy. However, if you are allergic, lacking some vitamins or minerals, or otherwise very sensitive to food qualities, you might want to think about buying organic foods. I like what Steve Edwards wrote in his "Top 4 Reasons to Eat Organic -- and Local" article. Take a look:

I think you might want to compare your body's reaction to fresh produce bought in different stores. If you cant tell the difference and if your health is good, maybe you buy only the best (for you) tasting organic foods.

A different matter can be with poultry, eggs, and fish -- these can even have better chemical composition when fed with healthy natural feed and free-range kept.

Just my 2 cents. I'm really not that experienced in this area. I can only say that when I moved to Europe, I felt a huge difference in food quality comparing with the US, even in regular groceries, and I cant tell organic from non-organic here just by food's taste.
