Carbs and eating

Hi.  There are so many of you experts in this area, I don't know who to choose, but we will start with you, as your profile seems to say you could help me with my issues.

I hope to be able to call on you now and again and ask nutrition questions as EVERYTHING I ever picked up in High School Home Ec has left my brain about nutrition.

My immediate question is - what is happening with my body when this happens....

On an average day I may get up about 7 a.m., drink coffee until 11 a.m. or so while I'm at my computer.  About 11, I get my hunger pangs so I have something like cereal and maybe fruit with milk and honey. (or maybe something less nutritional than that if I'm really in a hurry)

That actually didn't last all that long in me.  About 1:30 p.m. I went into a meltdown, started sweating and very very hungry.  At that point I have my least will power.  I start to crave carbs and anything that is fast and easy.  Today I didn't have plain bread sitting around to turn into a quick sandwich so I grabbed another banana, crackers, salami and cheddar cheese.  I wouldn't normally necessarily get anything that nutrious.  At that point all I want is FILLING.  
What snacks do you suggest would help me get through those times, as when I am home and doing my work on the computer, small snacks would work well for me and I'd prefer to just eat one main meal about 5 p.m.... then snack again later.

My age is 54.  My exercise efforts these days are nil.  I do walk (normal walking - not exercise walking) quite a bit for my job.  I give tours around Egypt, so we are up and down stairs and in the sand some...but it isn't that big of an effort.  I am probably 60 lbs overweight and I'm single so I am only having to feed myself on a regular basis.

Any help is appreciated.  Unfortunately, I am not ale to get my hands on many of the specialty foods available in the states to help with weight loss.

You seem to be overeating the carbs. The signs you describe are very typical for a carb-based way of eating. Good news is, the problem is usually solved by cutting down on such foods on your list as cereal, honey, crackers, the white bread part of your quick sandwich, even milk and fruits in the beginning. Replace them with nuts, seeds, avocados, sour cream, yogurt made of 50:50 milk and heavy cream... Cheese and salami is OK.

So, you might want to learn not only about snacks but generally about not eating simple carbohydrates. Better yet, to have energy level you "never dreamed of" as many of our dieters report, try this free online complete plan:
