meat/gas

Question
Hi
This happens to me every summer.
Although I increase my physical activity and consume roughly the same amount of calories,I develop a more pronounced belly, and a feeling of fullness and distension.
A friend who is a vegetarian says it is the increased amount of meat I eat.
I bbq steaks and chops for supper three or four times a week in summer and not at all in winter.Beer consumption is the same.
I dont think I have any food allergies.
What do you think?

Answer
Hi
An increased meat consumption could cause bloating if you are deficient in digestive enzymes (which may be something you are born with). Try eating papaya after a meaty meal. Papaya is rich in enzymes that can aid digestion, in particular it contains the enzyme papain which is used to tenderise meat.
