Margarine?

Question
Hi
I have tried low carb low fat low calorie-nothing works.
I am having a hard time losing the belly, even though I get daily cardio on my bike and I watch my calories to under 1500.
I do use a lot of margarine,I slather it on my toast and potatoes.
I use the 'healthy' non hydrogenated Becel brand.
Should I switch to butter or cut it out?
What about coconut oil?

Answer
Hi
Margarine is high in saturated fatty acids which will contribute to excess body fat and increase risk of heart disease.
For your potatoes a better alternative would be to dress them with a blend of oils high in cold pressed unsaturated fats, such as olive, rape, sunflower and flax. Unsaturated fats are beneficial for health by reducing inflammation and bodily cholesterol levels.
For your toast why not try poached, scrambled or boiled eggs. Not only will this reduce your unsaturated fat consumption, it will also provide a source of protein with the carbohydrates found in toast. Eating protein with carbohydrate slows its absorption and keeps you feeling full for longer.
