drinking green tea

Question
I have been reading up on drinking green tea to help weight loss and have read that before drinking green tea one should talk with their health provider first.  What is in regular green tea that is so dangerous?  I read it can even cause esophageal cancer.  Is it that dangerous to drink?  How many cups can be safely consumed to help lose weight?

Answer
Hi Margie,

Thank you for choosing all experts. I would first like to apologize for the delay in responding to this question. I myself just recently volunteered. First, regular tea or "black tea" has caffeine and has adverse affects on your metabolic rate. The metabolic rate is the minimum number of calories required daily to maintain your current body weight given your specific activity level. Green tea is herbal tea, which means it is derived from various herbs taken from the earth, much like tea but without the/as much caffeine.

Esophegeal cancer is most often characterized by chronic acid reflux, heart burn, indigestion, etc. This is not uncommon for caffeine. Though recent studies do not entirely support the correlation between black tea and cancer. Despite this fact, the possibility of the correlation between tea and cancer can not be disputed either.

Not only does it elevate the blood pressure but it also slows down your metabolic rate. I recommend my clients to consume three to five times more water each time they have ONE serving of any type of caffeine. Again, it depends on your metabolic rate.

In general, if you can avoid caffeine, then it is best to do so. If you absolutely have to have your "caffeine fix", limit it to one cup per day if possible, but a MAXIMUM of two.

Tea, like alcohol has it's benefits and disadvantages. If taken with moderation it is not only a relaxant and anti oxidant but it can also increase mental awareness. However, the opposite factors are true if too much is consumed. Your cholestorol may be affected, as with your awareness and your blood pressure. You should NOT consume heavy amounts of (if any) caffeine with heart problems, as it is possible for it to directly contribute to an acute or chronic myocardial infarction (heart attack), angina (chest pain) and arrythmia  (irregular heart beat). This is something you should consult with your PCP (Primary Care Provider). He or she has more information on the physiological affects of caffeine upon your body. This is because he or she has information acquired during the course of your medical treatment while under his or her care.

Regarding losing weight. Caffeine is one of a "no-no".
From Soda and coffee to tea. Any drink with caffeine has
the potential to affect the metabolism of the macro and micro nutrients that you take in for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining a state of nutritional balance.

Because every person metabolizes nutrients differently, it would be unprofessional for me to say that your body would
DEFINITELY NOT function while taken in caffeine, but I can confidently say that the key is moderation.

Thank you again for choosing all experts. Good luck with your health and fitness goals. Should you need any further information please feel free to contact me and you are welcome to rate the amount of satisfaction and usefulness you received from this answer.
