Coffee?

Question
I am 50,have been overweight all my life.
No health issues,thyroid,etc.
I am very active and eat healthy and not much.
Doctors say I just have a slow metabolism.
I recently came across an article that said coffee could lead to weight gain in some people.
This hit a nerve because I have always been a heavy coffee drinker.
Even as a child my mother gave ne coffee and tea, which was very unusual but so was she.
Do you think this may have effected my metabolism or liver?
If so,what could I switch to to give me that lift?

Answer
Hi
Metabolism varies very little between people. Coffee could have affected your liver, it's hard to say.
Should you feel you want to give up coffee, do it slowly. Caffeine is a very strong drug that will cause severe withdrawal symptoms, so reduce your consumption slowly. Once you do break your addiction, you will find that living a healthy life will negate the need for 'a lift.'
