I am a surfer who trains in gym/pool two hours a day. I am not a vegetarian but am trying to move towards this and I eat very little meat with a view of cutting it out altogether. I do eat fish rarely and will continue to do so. I am recovering from a cartilege injury at the moment and years of sport has seen 7 broken bones, including knee surgery. I want to eat for optimum health and also for repair/recovery of injuries and also for after training. I don't want to take a sugery whey protein shake but was thinking of a pea protein. Could you advice me on this and general foods i should me taking for anti-inflammatory benifits and repair of ligament/soft tissue

Hi Jack,
Thanks for the question. For the repair of your ligaments and cartlidge eat protein and calcium rich foods. I recommend Vitamin C gel tabs or topical ointment. Drink plenty of milk, try to avoid flavors such as strawberry or chocolate. I also recommend Vitamin B Complex gel tablets. Foods that will help you include: cabbage, onions, radish, beets, sweet peas, green beans, eggs, bananas, lettuce, celery, wheat or rye bread, whole milk, powerade, gatorade,
water, carrots, cucumbers, apples, oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, watermelons and spinach. This is assuming that you were asking about foods that did not include meat.
If you would like to include meat....fish is of course a good choice but I recommend boiled beef as well. Poultry meets (boiled) could include chicken and turkey. Use low fat salad dressing on all your vegetables, use fat free or low fat salt and use low fat/fat free butter/margerine. Try to avoid using a good deal of salty seasonings when cooking any meats.Any stir Fried vegetables is one of the best foods to eat.

Anti Inflammatories are good characteristics of herbal tea,
topical vitamin C ointment and dairy products. I would like to recommend some caution be given when considering dairy products.

Due to some peoples metabolism, immune system and physiological processing, food poisoning has been confirmed in some individuals who eat seafood and consume dairy products.

While I can not confirm nor reject the concept, it is not impossible that seafood and dairy negatively interact.
