Question
I have been placed on a bland diet for an ulcer. I have been told no red or black pepper, no chili, no acidic foods. What kind of herbs, spices and condiments can I eat? And do you know of a bland diet cookbook?

  I would recommend that you check out the following book:

You should be able to eat

   * Salt
   * Pepper
   * Mild flavorings
   * Most herbs
   * Ketchup, mustard and vinegar in moderation
   * All beverages as tolerated

You should also be able to eat:

Breads and Grains

     Whole-grain or enriched, seedless breads and grains:
         o Breads
         o Bagels
         o Tortillas
         o English muffins
         o Hamburger and hot dog buns
         o Dinner rolls
         o Pita bread
         o Cereals
   * Enriched rice
   * Enriched barley
   * Enriched noodles, spaghetti, macaroni, and other pastas
   * French toast, muffins, pancakes, and waffles made with low-fat ingredients
   * Low fat crackers
