wight gain and vitamins

Question
Hi, I would like information with regards to vitamins along with my food which could help me put on weight.  I am a 37 year old male my weight is 10 stone 7 lbs and i am 5' 8". Although im not over skinny i would like to increase my under skin fat, I feel the cold very easy and this can be a problem has i work out side all year round and it gets very cold in the winter months here in the UK.  My job is in construction and i work very hard in terms of workout so exercise is not a factor in my life, i would just like to put on a few more pounds. Also my Metabolism is also very fast and i do eat the right amount and the right foods a day and i don't really eat too much junk food, I was hoping there was a vitamin or medicine that could help slow down my Metabolism so to help me increase my weight, i would like to put on around 1 stone.

regards

rob

Answer
Dear Rob, Unfortunately their are no vitamins that will help you gain weight. Vitamins are essential nutrients found in foods and they are needed for normal cell function. Vitamin deficiency is uncommon unless you have been starving yourself. To gain weight you have to eat more calories than your body requires. Those extra calories will then be stored as fat. If you want those extra calories to be stored as muscle, then you have to break down muscle fibers with heavy work or lift weights. The extra food you eat will then be used for muscle repair and growth. Try doubling your food portions at every meal or just increasing your daily food till the scale says you weigh more. There is nothing wrong with being skinny. Skinnier people are usually healthier, they live longer, usually have lower blood pressure with less medical conditions See your doctor for a check up and allow the doctor to determine what a healthy weight for you might be. Hope that helps. Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
