Stomach Aches!

Question
QUESTION: For the past...6 months? I have a had a problem with my stomach.
For one, I do have a weak stomach but I dont think that has anything to do with it. Every morning before school (I'm 14) I  eat one bowlfull of vanilla yogurt cheerios. I can NEVER eat when i first get up, since my stomach will always hurt. My stomach always hurts after i eat too, no matter what i eat. It hurts in the morning at school, up to about lunch time where i have my normal lunch [turkey sandwich and orange juice] and occasionally a cookie. After that it hurts too! It isnt a full feeling, it is more of an ache and i am sick and tired of it. I also find myself feeling nauseous alot, and my stomach hurts alot when im nervous. I have tried talking to my parents about this but they say it is because I dont eat right, but i dont believe that. I seem to eat fine. I really want to lose some fat off my stomach and thighs, but cant find a way to do it, since my stomach always hurts so i am never up for exersizing. I am soon getting Activia Light yogurt and going to see if maybe this is a problem with my digestive system. Also I dont think I drink alot, which may be why, but im trying to drink more!
Do you have any ideas of whats wrong?

ANSWER: Hi Morgan,

If your parents say you do not eat right maybe you should do a little test. Right down everything you eat and drink in a three day period. Send it to me and we can take an honest look at what you really eat. Be brutally honest.

I do believe that you should ask your doctor about your stomach to clear any possible stomach problems.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Answer
Hi Morgan,

You are not eating enough food, and your choices are not healthy. You need to eat a much larger variety of vegetables and fruit.

Wendys, chocolate frosting, cheese and tortillas, chocolate chip muffins... not good choices. Steak, mashed potatoes, 2 rolls and cake... not a good meal. One serving of chicken teryaki w/corn... not enough, add two more veggies. Cliff bar, popcorn and rice cakes is not a good snack... try a handful of almonds and an apple and/or an orange.

Try this for dinner:
4 ounces boneless, skinless, diced chicken breast
2 cups steamed broccoli florets drizzled with olive oil
2 cups lettuce salad w/ 1 tbsp Italian dressing
1 cup green beans
1 cup brown or wild rice

Try this for lunch:
2 cups romaine lettuce w/ ?cup cherry tomatoes, ?cup grated carrots, ?cup chick peas and 2 tbsp dressing
1 cup shredded lettuce, 2 slices tomatoes, 2 slices turkey breast,
1 tbsp light mayonnaise in 1 whole wheat pita bread
12 ounces water

It is about better choices, more variety, more nutrients. I can not help you with your stomach but I can say you need to eat more and better foods.

Thank you,

Dan Haley, CNC
