Tryptophan from whey protein versus 5-HTP

Question
Have you heard anything about the sleep effects of this BioZzz whey protein? I found this protein powder online at www.BioZzz.com that claims that it may help get a better night sleep.  What are your thoughts?

Answer
Hello Christophe,

Tryptophan or, to be accurate, L-tryptophan, is found in most food proteins and the way it works is influencing brain serotonin levels, sleep control being one of its well documented effects.

However, another popular supplement, 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HT) is one step closer to serotonin than tryptophan. For example, L-tryptophan does not appear to be a well-documented antidepressant and sleep aid -- while 5-HT (naturally derived from the seeds of Griffonia simplicifolia, an African medicinal plant) does.

Approximately 100-day supply of BioZzz Alpha-lactalbumin costs $49.99

20-day supply of 5-HTP from NOW 1costs $18,95 and is more physiologically efficient.

Hope it helps,
