raising a child without processed foods

Question
My husband and I are expecting our first child in August. We have both been trying very hard to switch to a whole foods diet. Our diet consists of lots of veggies, beans, fish, nuts and fruits.Hubby has been making bread from scratch. Our dairy intake consists of plain yogurt and organic milk.We know that this is a healthy way to eat even though it is much more time consuming and costly(though the farmers market can be really cheap at the end of the day when everything must be sold)My big concern is our parents.I have watched my mother give her other grandchildren fast food on a daily basis...she considers this treating...My hubby's mom is actually an Italian chef but has been known to keep an endless supply of unhealthy snacks available.
How do we restrict them from "treating" our child without hurting their feelings?..It's like telling them that they don't know how to raise children.I know that if you don't expose a child to processed treats they really won't desire them...I have witnessed my neighbors little boy choose an apple over  a cookie on several occasions simply because  their family diet does not have it on the menu...ever.How do I put my foot down without causing bad feelings?
Any advice would help.
Erin

Answer
Dear Erin, You have over 1 1/2 years before your unborn child will even start solid foods. This gives you plenty of time to warn and educate the grandparents. To help stop any bad feelings, you educate your parents, and let your husband educate his parents. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
