eating too fast

Question
I eat way too fast. I am 16 now and since I can remember I have always eaten way too fast. I can finish dinner in less then 5 minutes. I have tried to stop but nothing helps. I hate it and I don't know how to stop. Lately, I haven't been feeling well. I am nausious, my heart has been hurting, my stomach feels empty and I have been getting headaches. Is this indigestion? I need some advice. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Rachel,

Though eating too fast is not good, the symptoms you describe warrant a visit to the doctor but are most likely not due to eating fast.

The only way too slow down is to make yourself do so. Eating too fast does not allow proper digestion and can result in indigestion and possibly missing out on some nutrients. If your stomach feels empty it is generally because you are hungry- maybe you are not eating enough, or maybe not enough of the right foods.

Get to the doctor for a check-up and have those symptoms checked, especially chest pain.

Thank you for your question,
