Can I lose 40 pounds in 96 days?

Question
hi i was wondering whats a good way i ca lose 40=50 pounds by july 1? if 40 is too much whats a reasonabl amount and how can i lose it? im 20 female just in case you wanted to know

Answer
Hi Tiffany,

Let's calculate. You have 96 days to lose those pounds so it's roughly 0.5 pound a day. To lose one pound, you should burn 3500 extra Cal., to lose 0.5 pound, it'd be minus 1750 Cal. a day comparing with your daily energy needs.

To burn this amount of fat by calorie restriction alone, you would have to go on a very low calorie diet, even lower than the clinical one, which is about 800 Cal. a day and is dangerous without medical supervision.

To burn them by exercising, you would have to do for 3 hours every day:

step aerobics
biking 12-13.9 mph
playing football or racquetball
rollerblade skating
running 5 mph (12 min/mile)

Or, for 1 hour 45 min. every day:

running 7 min/mile
chopping wood
rock climbing

Realistically, by exercising a lot and eating right types of food, you can decrease your appetite. Our Bantadiet.com dieters reported that without intentional calorie restriction thay ate about less than usually by about 1/3. However, their weight loss varied a lot, from a pound a week to 11 pounds a week, plus it varied in one dieter from week to week depending on diet phase and previously lost weight. So, you see, there's no simple answeer to your question.
