walk or run

Question
Cari
Two questions please?
A couple times a week I jog on my treadmill for 45 minuteswhen I get home from work to help my weight loss goals.
Today was a nice day and I decided to forget the bus and walk home from work- took an hour,I felt like I had burned off some flab but my feet were sore.
Question: Is it better to walk or run for weight loss?
My cardio is OK and my general fitness,I just need to lose the belly.
Should I walk on my treadmill every day, especially in inclement weather,or stick to the two or three times a week runs?
When I was a poor student before I got a car I walked everywhere-and was skinny.
Also, what about the low carb thing?
I have been having panic attacks lately.
I usually eat fairly low carb/glycemic but have been eating more bagels, sugar in my coffee lately (new job-friends-kind of stressed need comfort foods). A friend says carbs cause anxiety,
Should I go back to low glycemic?
Thanks!

Answer
HI Sue

Firstly let me start off by saying I'm not a medical doctor nor a dietician - I'm a psychologist, so I'm going to give you an opinion which you may need to check out earlier.

I think it's good to alternate exercises to prevent muscle confusion - if you want to know more about muscle confusion you can go to: http://www.ditch-diets-live-light.com/perfect-workout.html  You will get more of an aerobic workout from jogging on a treadmill, but long walks are also great or fat burning.  Actually you might also find it helpful to read: http://www.ditch-diets-live-light.com/basal-metabolic-rate.html which explains how we can change our metabolism.  But also, if your feet get sore doing one kind of exercise it's usually your body trying to get through to you so you need to consider that as well... and also have a look at your foot ware.  Maybe you were wearing different shoes when you walked home compared to when you're on the treamill.

Personally I don't believe in low carb - but I do think that the glycemic index has some merit.

please let me know by rating my answer if it was of any help to you.
Kind regards
Cari
