needing to tone up

Question
Hey Cari, I am 6'0 and 19.  I've done research with dad's personal trainer and I have a muscular body type.  I want to slim down to this actual muscle.  I'm 167 right now and only have fat on my chest and stomach and some on side.

I've included a picture as well to see what you think should be done.

Answer
Hi there - I'm not really sure what you're asking me, but from your picture you certainly don't look fat, you look just very normal to me, and it sounds like you're investigating the exercise route which is the onlly natural way to tone up.  Remember that height and weight aren't a very good measure of anything though - a much better indicator of health is a % body fat.  So what I'd suggest is that you take a look at http://www.ditch-diets-live-light.com/body-fat-calculation-and-health.html and send me those measurements so I that I can calculate that for you which will give you a better idea of what to aim for.

You may also want to read http://www.ditch-diets-live-light.com/benefits-of-fitness.html because it discusses the body fat of three women that may help you understand a bit more about fit vs. fat.  There's nothing wrong with wanting to tone up a bit, but also remember that men and women need different amounts of body fat.  Men need about 15% body fat throughout their lives whereas from puberty on, women need more.

Kind regards
Cari
