Weight Loss Trouble

Question
Hello...
I'd like a few questions answered about my health and how to go about losing weight.
I'm 5 ft, 4 in. tall right now and I'm 13.
My weight is at 165. I have learned that the weight I should be at is between 100 to 130.
A month ago, I was doing pretty well with losing weight-- I cut out on all the junk food I ate from day to day, and ate a little better. That meant I cut out a lot of chips, ice cream, and other little fattening foods in between. I managed to lose about 10 pounds in about 2 weeks. During those two weeks, for breakfast I'd have some light yoplait yogurt for breakfast, or the Atkins or SlimFast shakes.
It seemed to help fairly well.
But after that, my grandmother bought a lot of junk which i had trouble resisting eating... so I gained pretty much all of what I lost back.
Any weight loss tips for me? I'd like to lose 30 by November... and I think I can do it.
Also, how well does that "Slim Quik" drink mix work? I heard it helps, but I thought I'd ask more of an expert for a better answer.
Thanks so much! Hope you can help!

Answer
Dear Kylie, Slim Quik is a supplement targeted for women and is not recommended for growing and still maturing young teenagers, so beware. The main ingredient is caffeine, plus it contains herbs that target women going through menopause. There really are not diet supplements recommended for growing kids and teens. You should try to lose weight the healthy way with exercise and cutting calories. Try to walk everyday for at least 30 minutes. Your diet, as you already know, should be vegetables, whole fruits, lean meats, chicken, fish, low fat dairy products, whole grain bread, and healthy fats like those in salad oils. Try to eat around 1500-1800 calories per day. You might be able to lose 20 pounds by November, but 30 pounds seems unlikely. If you stay "full" eating the healthy foods, you are less likely to eat the junk food. If you do eat some junk food, you just won't lose weight that day, so just get right back on your program, don't give up. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
