high protein diets

Question
Hi Richard,
I have been on a diet for the last six months and and lost a little over 70 pounds.  I have reached a plateau and am having a hard time overcoming it.  I have tried changing my exercises and lower my calorie intake but nothing seems to work.  I have heard that higher protein and lower carb diets are an effective way to lose weight.  Is this true?  If not could you tell me a couple of good ways to get me back on track.

Thank you so much,
Marie

Answer
CONGRATULATIONS on losing 70 pounds. That's no easy task.

What you need to do is FIRE UP your metabolism a little bit by adding some EXTRA calories into your diet a few times a week.

See, your body has adjusted to that lower-calorie lifestyle and might even think that you're starving... so it's not going to burn any more fat to PROTECT you.

So what I would do is for TWO days in a row (M,Tu) eat a LOT of food (maybe 100% more calories than you're used to). Still eat healthy, but this will let your body rev up the metabolism a bit.

Then for THREE days after that (W,Th,F) eat HALF of what you're used to - to create an overall calorie deficit.

Eat normal over the weekend, and then start it all over again. You're still in the negative calorie range to lose weight, but your body won't think it's starving because you're playing tricks on your metabolism.

Worked for me!
