Question
A friend of mine (yes honestly) is having trouble losing weight. She has lost alot over the last year and has taken up running.  She is obsessed with her weight and last week was 9st 6lb. She only takes in approx 1000 calories per day but runs about 3 miles per day. This week her weight has risen to 9st 9lb. She cannot understand why she is gaining the weight. Could it be she is not taking in enough calories for the amount of exercise she is doing or could it be muscle weight? Please help I want to give her some optimistic news.

Its the first one you talked about. She is NOT eating enough for her activity level and her body is going into starvation mode. I am betting she is feeling like HELL. I bet if not already soon she will lose her period. Her body is doing AL it can to sustain life and MUSCLE is its last worry it will store fat and shed muscle to keep itself alive.

Ive been in this situation. Its a HARD downward spiral we get caught in. She needs to get a healthy relationship with food and eat for her activity, she will put on weight but she will get energy and after a bit actually lean up and ad muscle once her body doesnt think she is going to starve it
