carbs and fat intake

Question
I recently read your answer to a question where the querent wanted to know how many grams of fat she should consume in a day. You recommended 30-35, if the goal was to lose weight. That answer helped me tremendously ( someone had once told me only 10 grams a day). With the assistance of weight and cardio training, my goal is to tone and lose 25-40 lbs. I am 5 feet tall and currently 160lbs. My question is, how many grams of carbs should I consume in a day? And does the 30-35 grams of fat daily apply to me as well?

Answer
Hi Andrya!

Thanks for your nutrition question. Since you ARE trying to lose weight, 20 - 60 grams of carbohydrates total are recommended depending on your level of activity.  The 30-35 grams of fat would also apply to you as well.  This is the basic range for people trying to lose weight. You can also build a healthy diet at www.mypyramid.gov by entering your age gender and activity level. Hope this helps!
