Sodium in Food/Labelling


Question
When you look at a label and it mentions 3000mg of sodium per ham. I would assume that if the ham was boiled and the water drained, the amount of sodium would decrease ? The same for a porkchop/steak that was fried/BBQ'd ? I am trying understand how much sodium the final product would have when eating it. I have been instructed to remain on a low sodium diet, but it's at times very difficult to understand the labelling of foods, based on how it is cooked. Anything you could add, might help me with my diet needs. Thanks very much.

Sure, boiling it in water will leech off some of the salt, but honestly, I'm a WEIGHT LOSS expert. I'm not a nutritionist. If your doctor instructed you to stay on a low sodium diet, I would avoid any foods with a lot of sodium. There are plenty of low sodium foods available.

Personally, if I eat any foods with a lot of salt, I just make sure I counteract it by drinking a lot of water.
