Right amount of exercise

Question
Hi Richard. I'm 21, 5 foot 10 inches and clock in at about 240 pounds. I've recently started a new weight-loss regimen at the advice of my brother who is in school to be a personal trainer, in a way making me his willing guinea pig for everything he's learned. I have started to eat much better than I used to, sticking to fruits and cereals for breakfast or a poached egg, soups with low sodium and small sandwiches for lunch and dinner, and drink fruit juice instead of Pepsi and Coke products.
My exercise regimen consists of an hour of Tai chi and two hours of yoga per week, plus a minimum of 30 minutes on a treadmill or exercise bike for every day I do not engage in these activities. I have stuck to this lifestyle all through January with only a few breaks and see little evidence of weight loss, though I feel healthier and more energetic.

My question is, am I following the right diet/exercise regimen for weight loss and am just impatient? Or should I step up the amount of time I spend in the gym every day?

Answer
Weight loss is CALORIES IN - CALORIES OUT. While you're eating better, you need to count your calories and find the point at which you start to lose weight.

Also?the activites you listed are all good, but I'd like to see you add some STRENGTH TRAINING (weights) to your workout. Building muscle is the best way to burn fat.

It's not about QUANTITY, it's about QUALITY.
