Hy, I'm 19, male, about 6' 6" and normally weigh around 305 lbs.  I get my fair share of exercise in my daily life (farmer) but I抦 a little over weight because I don抰 really restrict myself as far as eating.  I drink soda, eat lots of potatoes and meat, and I eat pretty much whenever I抦 hungry.  I don抰 gain weight, but I抦 not exactly fit.  The other day I was working around the house and I noticed that I was getting pretty winded.  This was due to the fact that I was moving around a lot, trying to move my 305 lbs back and forth with my arms and shoulders.  Figure it would be easier for me if I lost a little weight.  I have cut out the fatty food that I use to snack on all day, and I抦 drinking water instead of pop.  Well, ok, I have a pop with supper, but its better than the 8 or 9 I was drinking a day.  Will this change of lifestyle help me lose the pounds?  I read somewhere that cutting out food will slow your metabolism but after about 5 days of this change, I抦 not really hungry anymore during the day.  And when I am I can chew a piece of gum or eat an apple or something small and I抦 fine.  The only thing that hasn抰 changed is my supper routine, and even that I抦 cutting down.  No seconds.  Am I going about this all-wrong?  I can抰 afford much in the way of healthy food but I am noticing that my new routine is easier on my wallet.  I guess what I抦 getting at is, can I lose weight by eating less, drinking water instead of pop or juice, and obsessively checking the scales?

Thank you for your time, and I appreciate any advice you can give me.  This is a totally new thing to me.

Eat right, count your calories, get rid of the sugar (cola!) in your diet, get some cardio (20 min a day) and some weight training.
