Oatmeal and Colesterol

Question
Hi Jen,  I regularly eat oatmeal made with whole milk at a cafeteria.  Would this have the effect of raising or lowering my colesterol?  Thanks, George

Answer
Hi George,

The oatmeal has soluble fiber which will help lower your cholesterol.  The whole milk has saturated fat which will raise your cholesterol.  My suggestion is to switch to 1% or skim milk.

Thanks for your question,
