burning calories

Question
QUESTION: Nevil,
Is it true that drinking 8oz of ice water will burn 40 calories as my body heats it?
How much for cold tap water?
Would this mean that if I drink a very cold 12 oz soda or beer with 90 calories that I add a net of 30 calories?
Thanks,
Paul

ANSWER: Sorry to disappoint Paul, but if it were that simple there would be far less weight problems around the world!

There is some truth that colder water takes more energy to digest- but 40 calories is neither here nor there. As for the soda etc, well, 40 calories less if it's ice cold...and a few hundred more because of what the ingredients are:-(

As I've tried to explain to others, stop counting calories as this leads to failure. That is why there are so few successful long term weight loss clients from diets and calorie controlled programmes.

the only sure way is to eat lean protein with each meal. Plenty of fresh veg. Reduce the intake of everything less and snack on raw veg/soybeans/nuts/seeds. drink 8-10 glasses of water a day and exercise at least 30 mins each day for 6 days a week.

It is a simple programme to follow if you have the right support.

Have a look at my site for more info.

All the best.

QUESTION: Nevil,
Thanks for the answer.
By the way, is there a significant difference in nutritional value between raw nuts and the canned nuts I get such as from Planters Peanuts?
Thanks,
Paul

Answer
Dry roasted soybeans- full of protein and nutrition
Dry roasted soybeans-
Hi Paul,
As long as the raw one's have only been roasted and have no coatings, then they are practically the same. Check the tin for any added ingredients, including salt.

I would recommend you choose almonds, walnuts, hazlenuts, pecans above cashews and peanuts, as they contain more saturated fat and slightly less nutrition.

Regards

Nevil

P.S. Better than all of these is soybeans! See the attachment.
