In shape for Marines

Question
I'm 5'5" and I weigh 175 lbs (female). My body fat percentage is 22%.
The military weight for someone my height is 145 lbs.

I haven't contacted a recruiter yet because I'd like to train a little bit more before I actually enter. I'm in good health and have gotten my mile time down to 12 minutes (though I'm currently getting it down lower).

I'm a little afraid that my weight may impede me or that I won't be able to take it off--because only 22% of my weight is body fat, but I am still weighing in at 175 lbs.

Can you maybe recommend something for me? An eating plan, or something?
Because as is, even my cardio is adding muscle weight to my body--increasing my weight.

Answer
Tegan-

BMI is over rated and should have been dropped years ago. I know a LOT of men and women in the military who are listed as over weight. I mean me by BMI standards I am happily stage 3 obesity. but by bodyfat standards I am well above average and in the athletic zone and am a national record holder. I would go talk to the recruiter and if you dont pass the silly BMI standards as long as you can kick butt on the tests you can go see a doc and get a  pass as you simply carry more lean mas then other people which is a positive.

I would hate to see you starve away your Lean mas and I would rather our men and women in uniform be able to carry as much lean mass as they want, even some fat as long as they can kick ass. So yes I could give you a diet etc to make you wither away but I would rather not. Go talk to a recruiter.
