Cant tolerate a lot of foods

Question
Lela
My husband has seen his doctor about this, and he has rulled out ant medical conditions.
That doenst change the fact that he just cant tolerate a lot of food.
Red meat fives him gas and bloats his stomach, coffee and alcohol give him gas and heartburn, and sweets give him a headache.Anything with a bit of salt makes him thirsty
The poor man lives on toast! He doesnt care for rice which he can eat, and mashed potatoes give him gas too.
Salads and chicken breasts are getting boring.
He has tried taking digestive enzymes and  probiotics but they dont help.
Any suggestions for supplements or other foods he can try appreciated.

Answer
Barb,
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, I have had some issues with my internet connection.

First, I would get a second opinion on the medical end of things. Have they checked for Crohn's disease? Ulcerative colitis? Food Allergies? IBS? There are so many issues which might cause food intolerance and a GP may not be well enough educated in all of them to fully determine what is going on.

Second, Probiotics are fine and good, but they don't always stay live and active in pill form. If he can eat yogurt, that might be a better choice for him, just make sure it has live and active cultures listed on the label.

Some supplements that may be helpful are ginger tea- used to sooth the stomach. Bromelein- which is a digestive enzyme and antioxidant. CoQ 10 which helps the body produce it's own enzymes as well as Benefiber (the fiber supplement that doesn't get thick) it acts as a Pre-biotic making a better environment for the good bugs in the yogurt to set up shop in your intestines.

I am not sure how his body will react to any of this stuff, I am not a doctor, but that is my best advice. You really should get a second opinion if you haven't yet.

Hope this Helps,
Lela Simon
