Question
Starting this year, I have noticed that i began to over eat more than usual. I am a sophomore in high school, and my school lunches are terrible as far as nutrition. I often find myself with an ice cream or a bag of chips during school, and then I will come home and go straight to the cabinets eating cookies or chips or whatever is in sight. I want to lose between 5 and 10 pounds, but my main priority is just eating healthier and cutting over eating and bad cravings out of my diet for good. Do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Dear Jess, you are in charge of what you eat and the food you choose. You have to make a conscious decision that morning about what food you will eat that day. Plan out your meals ahead of time so there will be no surprise snack food purchases. Bring a bagged school lunch, or check the school menu ahead of time and decide what you will eat before you go to the cafeteria. After school, fill your fridge with cut up vegetables, low fat dip, low sugar yogurt, sugar free jello, etc.. Dinner should always be lean meat, chicken, fish or pork and as many vegetables as you can eat. If you walk daily for at least 30 minutes and follow a healthy eating program, you should be able to drop 5-10 pounds in one month. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
