Can protein deficiency damage kidneys?

Question
Hi:

I've heard that during severe protein deficiency, body protein is broken down to provide protein for the vital organs. Can this damage the kidneys?

Thanks,

Green

Answer
Green-

I would not be worried about he kidneys if you are breaking down body protein I would be worried about he lean tissue that is being broken down. Thats what's being injured the kidneys are doing their job. I would put my worry and concentration on getting more protein intake.
