Snacking while studying

Question
Hello,

I am a college student trying to get into nursing school. I find that I like to snack on sweets and processed foods while I study to cope with the high stress levels of tests and assignments. I do try to eat healthy and I notice I have gained a lot of weight. I have PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome) and an endometrial fibroid and I take Yaz bith control pill - it also helps my acne. I have a gym membership but I found myself under too much mental fatigue since I started school to go to the gym because I was used to walking over 2 hrs. to get 10,000 steps a day. What can I do? Do you have some ideas? I don't want to continue to gain weight while I'm in school!

Answer
Melanie,
For your PCOS you should be limiting carb intake- try snacking on nuts, cheese, or hummus and veggies. Also try taking short breaks while you are studying to do some exercise. Try squats, calf raises, table top push ups, and jumping jacks. This will get your body burning calories and will help reduce stress.

Hope this helps,
Lela Simon
