NUTRITION LABEL ON A FOOD CAN/BOTTLE

Question
IS 25%(?) A GENERAL RULE OF THUMB AVERAGE OF AN AMOUNT OF AN INGREDIENT IN A FOOD?

Answer
I'm not sure if you are asking about the Daily Value (how much of a nutrient you should take in a day for a healthy diet) or the actual ingredients.

There is no rule of thumb for average amounts: it depends on what the food is, among other details.  Ingredients are listed in descending order by weight on the label.  That means there is more of the first ingredient than any other, and least amount is the last ingredient.

For example, a breakfast cereal may list flour as the first ingredient and that means there is more flour than anything else.  There is probably also sugar listed, and if that is listed after flour, then there is less sugar than flour. If salt (or maybe a preservative or a coloring) is listed last, that is because there is a very tiny amount in the recipe.
