Fruits for a healthy diet?

Question
Hi,
I have recently been trying to eat a healthier diet and thought by eating plenty of fruit it would help me lose some weight. However, i have heard that too much sugar is bad for health and was wondering if naturally occuring sugars in fruit are bad too? Apples have a lot of sugar in them so should i not eat them?

Thanks

Answer
Apples are not about "sugar", their nutritional and dietetic values go far beyond calories or carbohydrates. For one thing, apples are very filling. Their "satiety index" is higher than grapes' or bread's:

apples 197
bananas 118
white bread 100

In the article "Fruits: good or bad for fat loss?" Nutrition and fitness expert Mike Geary wrote; "Some people claim that fruit is mostly sugar, so it will spike your blood sugar and insulin levels and prevent fat loss. I disagree." -- http://starturl.com/fruits-fatloss

Hope it helps,
