reducing chocolate and sugar consumption

Question
I'm 46, 6'1" and 195 lbs; I'm in very good health overall, I eat my veggies, I cycle and/or lift weights 2-3 times a week. My Achilles heel is sugar, especially chocolate.  I eat it nearly every day, although not in huge quantities -- but it's enough to keep me from losing that last 10-15 pounds.  Any tips on how to reduce the chocolate cravings so I can lose weight?  Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Answer
Dear Gerrit,

There's nothing I can offer you to physically reduce chocolate cravings. It's a state of mind.
You have to have a reason you feel it's more important to lose weight than to eat chocolate. If you can't come up with one, there's no reason to not just eat to your heart's content!

Ask yourself why you want to lose 10-15 pounds. How will this change your life? If you can't come up with a meaningful answer, you'll probably just continue to indulge and be fine with it :)

The other options are to limit the chocolate, either in portions or in frequency; find a lower calorie source (like chocolate flavored lower calorie snack bars instead of candy bars or sugar-free hot chocolate); or exercise to burn off each serving of chocolate you have (walking, running, or cycling the number of minutes it takes to burn off the chocolate calories).

Lots of options for you--I'd love to hear what works for you!!
