plain yogurt in coffee?

Question
Hi
I am trying to eat more yogurt for its health benefits. I have mild I.B.S. main symptom bloating.
I dont have a sweet tooth so I cant eat the flavored ones.
Today I put some plain low fat yogurt in my coffe and it tastes OK.
Will the coffee kill the beneficial bacteria.I am thinking as long as its not too hot it should be OK-say body temperature. I dont know about the caffeine and acidic qualities of the coffee though.
Thanks!

Thank you for contacting allexperts.com  I hope that I can assist you with your question.

When people ask me, I recommend against eating dairy products. This would include yogurt.  Despite the fact that yogurt is eaten to repopulate bacterial cultures in the intestines, the fact that diary products create mucus which interferes with vitamin and nutrient absorption negates any positive effects that these cultures would have.

Treating IBS by eating a raw food diet has been very successful. At the very minimum your diet should consist of no more than 25 percent cooked foods and the remainder should be whole, raw, unprocessed vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, seeds and vegetable oils.  The traditional notion that digestive disorders should be treated with a "bland" diet has been proven incorrect.  Eating as much raw, natural and preferably organic foods will provide the enzymes necessary to maintain a healthy digestive tract.  Omitting all dairy and red meat - eating minimal meat products - no more than 3 ounces twice a week will strengthen and heal your digestive tract and your IBS should resolve.  Removing dairy products alone will make a remarkable difference.  If you still feel that probiotic cultures would be beneficial, I recommend that you purchase them at your local health food store and keep them refrigerated between uses.  Grocery store probiotics are usually ineffective and a waste of money.

In addition, IBS has been proven to respond to other modalities which reduce stress which has a negative effect as well. You would be well advised to adopt some type of stress reduction regimen which could include meditation, bio feedback, tai chi, studying religious works, etc. It would be prudent to avoid stressful situations if you can do so.

Best of luck to you in your efforts to improve your health and wellness.
