red meat

Question
Hi.  Can you tell me if turkey bacon is considered red meat?  Thanks

Answer
Dear Danielle,

Thank you for contacting allexperts.com. I hope that I can assist you with your question.

No, turkey bacon is not considered red meat.  Red meat is mostly limited to beef and beef-type meat such as bison or venison.  I am told, however, that ostrich is actually considered red meat; looks and tastes very much like beef - although I have never personally eaten ostrich.

Although I am certain that turkey bacon is considered to be healthier than regular bacon, I would certain look over the ingredients list before choosing any product. Buying a product that is high in chemicals and preservatives would not be a good choice. If you enjoy the taste of turkey bacon and want a healthy product, I recommend purchasing at health food stores and choose a product with minimum chemical additives.

Best of luck

Tasha.
