Eating less an feeling sick when eating

Question
QUESTION: I eat less an when I do eat I feel sick

I eat once a day small amount

I'm 5'3 in height an 7 pounds under weight

My period late by 6 weeks  not pregnant or sexually active
I overexcercise alot an I'm a dancer
I feel sick an dizzy an weak alot what do I do?

ANSWER: Hi Christine,

I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling well.

Sometimes when life is very stressful this can have an effect on our appetite. Is something going on that is upsetting you?

When eating is nauseating it could be easier to drink. Getting a nutritional supplement drink like Ensure or Boost or Carnation Instant Breakfast will get some vitamins and protein into your system and may help a bit.

Being underweight and over-exercising could be making your periods irregular.

But, you can't rule out the possibility of a medical issue. I would suggest seeing your family physician just to have a check-up and possibly some bloodwork to see if you have something going on in your digestive system. You could have anemia (iron-poor blood makes you weak and tired) or you could have a problem with your gall bladder--there's no telling without having a physical. Chances are it's something that can be easily remedied with medication or diet :)

There's also a chance there is some element of an eating disorder involved--but I don't know you so I can't comment on this. If there is more information you'd like to share feel free to write back--and I would love to hear back from you about how it turns out :)

QUESTION: i called my doctor an we will hopefully together see whats going on, im afraid she will order me to eat more and to ban excercise cause periood still late (not sexually active or pregnant) what do you think she might have me do?

Answer
Hi Christine,

I'm glad you were able to reach your doctor so soon!
She will probably listen to your heart and lungs, feel your stomach, find out if you have any pain, and perhaps order some blood tests.

If you are really afraid of having to eat more or not being able to exercise as much, you might bring this up with her. This resembles some characteristics of an eating disorder and she will know someone to refer you to for this.
No one who is trained to deal with these conditions ever orders someone to eat more and stop exercising... they know you can't just do it because they say so. There are extensive treatment plans that take time and support groups to help you out of the situation! I encourage you to explore these if you feel like there is a chance you suffer from anorexia or bulimia.

Keep in touch and let me know if I can help :)
