Low fat, low meat, higher carb.?

Hi!
Is it possible that some people do much better on a high carbohydrate, low or no meat/fat diet?
The reason I ask is that for years I have been trying to lose weight by eating low calorie, low carb.
From what I read the low fat approach has be discredited.
However, In an effort to reduce my distended belly, GERD, and other digestive problems, I have noticed I feel much better when I cut out red meat.
Lately I have cut out all fats like cheese and butter and that has helped even more, I sleep better, and my belt has also come in a couple notches! But, the daily calorie count though is the same? I though all calories were equal? Go figure...
On another note, I have Asian friends that eat tons of rice and noodles, lots of veggies, very little meat. Skinny and full of energy. Also my neighbour is Italian and eats a lot of pasta and bread. He eats it like they do in the old country-plain-maybe with a little olive oil.He is 76 and has a girlfriend ;-)
So I figure that for some people, high carb and no saturated fat is probably the way to go. I do know that in many other countries the main meal is some type of carbohydrate. Meat/cheese is too expensive. But when a KFC or McDonalds opens up, people get fat.

Hi Susan,

My business partner is the one who focuses on eating and health, and has been training  for most of his life - always fascinated by what food does to our bodies and energy levels and the like, and with his assistance, I have been learning and studying a great deal so I hope I can offer some insight into your question

Although it is very important that we look at what we eat and take in, in our opinion, we are not too worried about the amount of calories consumed as long as we listen to what our bodies are telling us at all times. At the end of the day, every single person is uniquely individual and the way that their body processes foods differ, however, we have found that the following approach has had THE most impact with people we work with.

When we eat the right foods, leave out the junk food/drinks (and sugar) as much as possible and drink plenty of water and exercise - there is nothing to worry about. I don't know what your actual food/drink intake is right now, but let me give you a few guidelines.

- 70% of your diet should exist out of water content, live foods (such as vegetables and fruits)
- Eat and drink plenty of greens - spinach and cucumber are amazing sources of protein as well as energy
- Make sure you get your vitamins and minerals
- Drink a minimum of 2 liters of water a day
- On top of that, please don't forget your regular cardiovascular workout for a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes a day.

These are just a few easy ways, that will keep the fat of, the energy up and keep you looking fresh and young. It is very easy to make a habit and a way of life and people will start asking you what it is that you do to look that good, energetic and vibrant.

With regards to your other comments, different cultures have different beliefs around food as well and this is something that does have an impact on what we eat. Take a look at some of the beliefs you hold deep down inside you about food such as "It is difficult to lose weight" or "Healthy food isn't fun and tasty" - things like that. And listen to what your body is telling you - you are already doing this as you mentioned that you feel much better when you cut our red meat. This is a good sign as you are very aware of the signals your body passes on to you so well done.
