Weight Lifting Nutrition

Question
I am a 14 year old boy, I play football. I am 5'11", 140lbs. I start weight lifting for football in January. I will be weight lifting 3 times a week. I was wondering what protein supplements or nutrition to eat, to get the best results.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hands down the best thing that you can do for yourself during this growth period is to eat whole foods. Stay away from processed foods, stay away from acidic foods and definitely stay away from sodas and high sugary foods. Eat lean meats, preferably free-range, grass-fed, and of course organic vegetables. For your age and development I would not suggest using a protein shake of any sort, but if you do, choose one that is vegan protein, your body will be able to use it more efficiently without the acidic issues associated with Whey or animal protein shakes.

When lifting, make sure that you work really hard during the workout and then give yourself plenty of rest. The rest is where you will be growing the most and getting the most value of the workouts. Over-training is dangerous and can cause you to grow slower, so make sure you take care of your body.
