Question
Are raw almonds and other nuts a good source of protein?
If yes, are any nuts better than others?

How many nuts can I eat before they add weight
instead of lose weight?

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

Great question. Nuts are a good source of plant based protein they are however full of fat and caloric dense.  Like any other food the overall amount of calories that you consume versus what you expend will depend on weight loss or gain.  The portion size of nuts is different for each type.  For example, there are approximately 100 calories in 16 almonds.  If you enjoy them as a snack in an otherwise well balanced diet then they are a heart healthy choice.  Portion control and looking at your other choices throughout the day can help determine if nuts are preventing weight loss. Thank you.
