maintaining/losing weight w/o strenuous exercise

Question
For the past few months I had been walking briskly for 30 minutes each day. I have gone from 180 to 140 pounds and my goal is to get to 120 pounds. I recently broke my lower leg in an accident not related to exercising. Obviously I don't want to gain back a lot of weight, and since physical therapy alone probably won't help me to maintain and lose much weight, can you suggest ways to help me continue to maintain and lose weight while I'm recovering (diets, certain types of exercise, etc.)?

Answer
Hey, Jennifer. I am sorry about your injury and I hope you recoever soon. While you are injured, tried to focus on exercise that you can do while lying down. For instance, you can lift both of your legs or one of them, you can do crunches or related exercises, you can also do any exercises involving the upper parts of your body. Any exercise that involves abdominal muscles is good. Lifting free weights will also help. You can try swimming if it doesn't hurt too much. It's probably not going to be as good as walking or running, but this will keep your metabolism up and will allow you to not gain weight back.

Thanks, and I hope this helps. If not, please follow up.
