Molina banding

Question
In, I think the band is trying to migrate in.  pain the 80's I had gastric banding surgery by Dr.M.Molina of Houston,TX. I've gained all the weight back, now having severe chest.A few weeks postop felt the band move upward post vomiting. Does anyone remove this type of band?

Answer
Anita,
The Molina type of band is definitely susceptible to erosion.  I see that you currently live in Mississippi, but if you can possibly make it to Houston then the surgical group led by Erik Wilson and Todd Wilson (no relation) are definitely the best group from whom to seek care.  They have techniques that permit eroded bands to be extracted without major abdominal surgery, using endoscopic (down the throat and through the mouth) techniques.

If you can't make it to Houston, then my advice is to work through your primary doctor to find the most experienced bariatric surgeon in your area.

At the very least, you can begin with a standard gastro-enterology doctor (GI doc) to arrange an upper scope for a look at the area.

Best of luck,
Dr JP
