Bariatric surgery after ileostomy

Question
Hi, I am 51 y/o and I have an ileostomy due to Inflammatory bowel disease. Had my ileostomy in 1999 and had no problem after that. I am not taking medication for IBD. Would it be possible for me to have a bariatric surgery.

Answer
Dear Rachel,

I am unsure as I myself have not had an ileostomy.  However, I would suggest that you contact the United Ostomy Association of America (UOAA) with this question.  There are forums available on the internet where you can pose this question so that people in your situation can offer their opinions both professional and personal.

I am sorry that I cannot answer your question from personal experience but I would only be giving a personal opinion and do not want to give you false information.

Please let me know if this alternative helps as I would do more research myself to help if it did not.

Sincerely,
Steve
