No health insurance

Question
I am in my mid-forties and have struggled with obesity my entire life (I am more than 100 lbs overweight). I need help desperately, and feel that lapband surgery might be the answer. However, I have no health insurance at all. Expense aside, even if I'm able to arrange for a payment plan to cover the cost of surgery, will any surgeon or surgical center be willing to do the procedure on someone without any health insurance?

Answer
Carla,
Even when folks have health insurance, the insurance company often refuses to cover Band surgery or other forms of bariatric surgery.  Because of this, almost every active bariatric surgery program DOES accept patients who pay out of pocket, and many of the programs have financing plans as well.

I hope this is helpful,
Dr JP
