Question
Hello Dr. I am a 19 year old male and have had abdomenal surgery when i was 6 years old. I recently found out that I have a hernia on the lateral side of my right abdomen, and have had it for quite some time. The consultant i asked said it doesnt seem to show cause any complecations and it is best to avoid surgeries whenever possible. What i forgot to inform him is that I do body building and wieght training. Should i countinue this or not. Thank you.

Answer
Musa,
It is hard for me to give a solid opinion without examining you.  However, I can say that if the area is bothering you significantly, and also if it keeps you from desired physical activities, then it would be worth it to seek an additional opinion from another surgeon.

Best of luck,
Dr JP
