What is the easiest and best way to lose weight permanently and effectively?

Doctors and dieticians recommend losing weight gradually, allowing a whole month for every 4 to 8 pounds you want to lose. Do not starve yourself, or skip meals, or try throwing up.
Here's a program for the period in which you want to lose weight:
Try to get plenty of moderate aerobic exercise (intense exercise may damage your joints). It isn't essential to join a gym; you can do sit-ups, pushups, dumbbell-lifting, jumping-jacks, and many other basic exercises at home. Walk as much as possible. Bicycling and swimming are good too. Even for people who are not trying to lose weight, being active helps your digestion, your circulation, and other body processes.
Even more important than exercise, is avoiding junk foods and sweetened drinks such as soda. Try to avoid refined flour and pasta, processed foods, fried foods, and fatty cuts of meat. Preferably consume no added sugar, and as little added salt as possible. Our great-grandparents didn't have the epidemic of obesity we see today, because they had a less-sedentary lifestyle, a much more natural diet, and they ate reasonably-sized portions.
Eat 3 not-large-portioned meals per day; do not skip breakfast; and avoid sugary snacks. If you want a snack, try (for example) an apple or a handful of unsalted nuts.Limit your calories (best to consult a doctor or nutritionist concerning the amount), and weigh yourself at the same time each day, 2-3 times per week. If you see your weight diminishing at a safe, reasonable rate (1-2 pounds/week), keep it up.
Once you've reached your goal, increase your calorie intake somewhat, so that you can maintain your present weight. And you can then have small amounts of sweetened foods or junk food on occasion (if at all), along with your regular healthy foods. But keep checking your weight 2-3 times/week.
Avoid crash-diets, fad diets, diet pills, etc. These may be harmful, and need not be considered by people who have adopted an otherwise healthy diet.
More guidelines:
Don't concentrate on specific foods so much as on a balanced, healthy diet plus exercise.Healthy nutrition means eating what your body needs, while ingesting as few harmful things as possible. It has also been described as getting enough of each of the major food categories, in healthy forms (grains, fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy, etc.; plus plenty of water).

In general, an example of a healthy starting point could be a menu of whole-grain foods and bread, a good amount of vegetables, legumes, some fruits and nuts, fish, lean meats in not-large amounts, and some dairy. However, this may need adjusting according to one's lifestyle, age, health, weight and other factors at the outset; and also later, as one sees what works for him/her in particular.
Also...whenever you feel queasy, nauseous, constipated or otherwise not completely well, try to remember what you've eaten over the last several hours or the last day. This is one factor in adjusting one's food habits.

Answer by Anand Vijayakumar Confidence votes 76.0K I lost 40 lbs in 2 months. Went from 245 to 205 just by cutting down carbohydrate and calorie intake. Far less carbohydrates, no sodas, walking 3 miles a day, and weight training 2 to 3 times a week.

Answer
Remove all forms of sugar from your diet, obviously. Fruit is high in naturally occurring sugar. Don't eat fruit. Stay away from juice. It is not healthy, no matter what the commercials say. Eat an orange or an apple if you really want the fruit because fruit juice is much worse. Have you ever tried to squeeze your own juice? Instead of just getting the sugar from 1 orange or apple or whatever, in a glass of juice, you're probably getting the sugar from, say 15 oranges. I dare you to try to eat that many in one sitting or even in a whole day. It is the fiber of the orange/apple, whatever fruit you like juiced, not the juice, that is "good" for you. Juice and fruits should be avoided. Once you are down to your ideal weight, then eat the fruit but exercise. Plain yogurt and lots of vegetables, salads etc. Don't use ANY dressing. Just put lots of vegetables on it and learn to love it. Dressing in any form, vinegar, oil, whatever is unnecessary other than for taste preference. Adjust your preference because there's no point in eating a salad if you eat dressing. You might as well have not eaten the salad because it undoes any good the lettuce would have done. Eat nuts for protein. Cut out bread, anything with refined processed carbohydrates.

The best way is to cut back on what your eating, don't eat out anywhere, and don't eat stuff like chips and cookies and candy. It comes off slower than any of these fad diets, but as long as you don't go back to old eating habits it will work. Like, eat one bowl of cereal for breakfast. Eat a sandwich and some veggies and dip or something like that for lunch. If you need a snack, either eat fruit or if you need to eat something like chips than get low fat ones or quakes (mini flavored rice cakes), they're really good. And then for dinner eat something sensible like a meat and a veggie. Then if you need a snack at night again eat something sensible.

There are no "quick fixes" to losing weight and keeping it off. It's within ourselves to keep our body's in shape. Exercising is very important. Try "fast walking" hiking, biking, etc., if you don't want to go to a gym. If you can afford a gym then talk to the trainer there. Don't kid your inner self either. If you truly don't feel you can stick to going to the gym 3 times a week or more, please don't as you will disappoint yourself. Swimming is another good exercise. Try to hook up with some friend and go bike riding (very popular in British Columbia) and keeps you toned up. Drink 8 - 10 glasses of water as water flushes the kidneys out, keeps all organs (your skin is also an organ) clean and flushes out the impurities of your body including fat.

There may or may not be an easy way to lose weight permanently and effectively. What may be easy for you may not be easy for another. Your mind and body work together on every aspect. Everything you do is about behavior. If you have decided that you want to change your weight then you have to change your eating behavior. Are you eating your meals too quickly? Are you eating your meals at the correct time? These questions are important. Am I eating the right foods to aid weight loss? Am I tempted because a snack is in front of me or can I walk away and say, "no, I am on a program and I intend to follow thru with that plan because I am responsible and I love my body enough to say no." It doesn't mean that you can never enjoy snacks again, just in small quantities and not so often. Not everything has to be about food. It's a condition that you can change. You have become conditioned to overeat. Start there, with your behavior and maybe you might answer other issues of your life along with food.

Answer
