Sonia’s Weight Loss Story!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
Last year, after coming back from a family vacation I was just so disgusted by my photos I knew I was done and I wanted a change.

What made you decide to lose weight?
I never accepted that there was anything wrong with my weight. I was just “tired” I had convinced myself that I was big and I always was and would be. After I saw the pictures I couldn’t lie to myself any longer.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I drastically changed my eating habits. I cleared out my kitchen of all my junk. I began eating 1,200 calories a day and being mindful of everything I put in my mouth. More than anything I had to relearn how to eat and how to have self-control.

What was most challenging about losing weight?
sonia-weight-loss-success-stories-2The detoxing bit. Right when I started, I CRAVED carbs and junk food. For me to get past that I had to just not have anything for a month.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
Only a couple of weeks before I had started to lose weight. At about 2 months, I had lost about 20 pounds (the first 10 pounds just disappeared).

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
About a year.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and how do you do it?
I have just reached my weight but during the past year I have never gained. I had several plateaus but have never gone up.

How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
It’s like I don’t even know who I was. I run 3 times a week now and I’m beginning to increase my flexibility in hopes of being a contortionist.

How did ShapeFit help you reach your weight loss goals?

Sonia’s Weight Loss Eating Plan!

Breakfast:
1 cup high fiber cereal, 2% milk, 2 or 3 pieces of fruit (usually oranges) and a cup of coffee.

Lunch:
Whole wheat pita or wrap stuffed with spinach red bell peppers, chicken, cucumber and onion topped with olive oil and balsamic. I also usually have some pudding or a bit of yogurt for desert.

Dinner:
Stir fry: broccoli, red bell peppers, carrots, onions, chicken and shiitake mushrooms served over brown rice. I also usually have a little bowl of frozen yogurt.

Snacks or Mini Meals:
Nuts, fruit, RED BELL PEPPERS (I probably eat 2 a day), a couple of crackers or a granola bar.

Sonia’s Weight Loss Workouts!

Weight Training:
Early on it was just me jumping on a trampoline with a couple of 5 pound weights. Now I spend 30 minutes every other day at my gym doing circuit training with the machines. I also do about 2 hours a day (spaced out throughout the day) of intense flexibility training.

Cardiovascular:
I didn’t get into working out until I was around 160 pounds. When I started I was just walking/jogging for about 30 minutes when I got home from work. I now run at the gym for 35 minutes every other day after stretching and before weight training.
