Bridget’s Weight Loss Story!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I was unhappy with my weight for a couple of years but just kept letting myself go anyway.

What made you decide to lose weight?
One of my coworkers who was like my second mom and best friend, passed away in February. When all that happened it made me realize life is too short and you have to take care of yourself. Then there was also an issue with my kidneys. I have FSGS (focal segmental glomerulosclerosis). I’ve already lost 50% function in both kidneys and couldn’t afford to lose anymore.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
Cutting out fried food, sweets and making the decision to workout.

What was most challenging about losing weight?
The most challenging part was fighting off the temptation to want to eat bad foods. A big part of weight loss is mental. When I was tempted to eat something bad, I’d ask myself if I would rather eat it or see weight loss for the week.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
I didn’t see it in myself for a good two months. My family and friends were commenting on it when I was about a month into it.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It has taken me 9 months to lose the weight.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and how do you do it?
I’m not at a maintaining point yet. I still have about another 30 pounds to go.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
My health and my future.

How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
The biggest thing is my health. After 7 years, I finally have a normal kidney function and that alone is huge for me. I am so much happier now. I’m finally starting to have confidence in myself that I never thought I would have.

Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Don’t give up! It will be tough sometimes but just keep pushing through and believe that you can do it.
