Clifton’s Weight Loss Story!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I had been unhappy with my weight for the past six years or so. I had gotten to the point where I couldn’t fit in amusement park rides and was mortified when asked to exit one of the rides because I was too fat and he couldn’t get the shoulder bars to strap down. I looked at myself everyday and just was repulsed.

What made you decide to lose weight?
My friends had come out to visit and she had sent a picture of us on the beach back to me. When I saw that picture of us, I seriously thought, “when did you become a beach whale”. I knew at that time I had to work on losing weight. Plus, I started having horrible knee problems, and I was getting winded just doing basic things like walking from the car to the building at work. I started to become fearful that I would become a victim to heart disease or diabetes. Finally, at work we started doing the Biggest Loser Challenge, competing for a day off from work. It was the motivation I needed to get me started on my journey. As others didn’t make it to the end of the two month contest, I continued and plan on to keep on keeping on for good.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I cut out all soda, fried foods and sweets. Then I began exercising. I started out jump roping using the HIIT method. I was so big I could only do about 10 minutes. Then as I became more fit, I increased the workouts to 20, then 30, then 40 minutes. I also added kickboxing into the mix. Finally, I started doing a super-intense interval program named Insanity. Oh yeah and lots of water!

What was most challenging about losing weight?
Just remaining patient in the beginning. I’m the type that wants instant results and I felt I was working hard and wanted to see the difference right away. I had to believe that it was working despite not seeing a huge difference right away

How long did it take you to start to see results?
I started to see a difference in as little as 2 weeks. I started to notice my pants were getting a little loose and that was enough to motivate me to keep going.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
Only 5 months.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and how do you do it?
Only a month, but I continue to workout as a lifestyle and my mindset about food has completely changed. I eat to fuel my workouts and energy throughout the day rather than eating to please my taste buds. If you don’t have a mindset change about food, you’ll revert back to bad habits. Of course I have cheat days, and those are good because I find I crave those kinds of food less and less!

How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
The increased energy is the biggest difference. Sometimes I’m just hyper while everyone else is tired. Plus, it feels like the real me is back. I feel comfortable, I’m not embarrassed to walk into a room and suspect people are laughing at me, and my confidence has greatly increased.

Clifton’s Weight Loss Workouts!

Weight Training:
I don’t lift yet. With the program I do, it uses your own body weight as resistance and shapes your muscles.

Cardiovascular:
Initially, jump rope intervals is what got the first 40 pounds off. I then started doing a program that involves extreme interval training using plyometrics, circuit, and maximum interval conditioning. A lot of basketball, football, and track conditioning exercises. Super tough program, but amazing results.
