Jacki’s Weight Loss Story!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
Most of my adult life.

What made you decide to lose weight?
In 2009, I was visiting 2 of my grandchildren and my granddaughter, then 3 years old, said “Jac Jac, you have big arms”. I laughed it off but then realized that I needed to do something so that I could have the energy to play with them and take care of them when needed. My son also told me that I had to be accountable and that word stuck with me, knowing that I have the power to be accountable for what I eat and don’t eat.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I started writing down everything I ate in a steno pad, including the number of calories and fiber counts. I started this in June 2009 and by February 2011 (20 months later) I had reached my goal weight. I walk when I can and do some Zumba.

What was most challenging about losing weight?
Being afraid when the holidays came being surrounded by all the rich foods. Other than that, I counted calories and allowed myself to eat sweets only but not everyday. I also adjusted the sweets to fit into my calorie count for the day.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
I lost 13 pounds in six months and 31 pounds after one year.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
18 months, from June 2009 until February 19, 2011.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and how do you do it?
I have maintained my weight loss since February, 2011. I had lost 4 more pounds during this time but have gained that back. I think my body was telling me that I could manage my weight at 154 pounds.

How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
I have gone from a tight size 14 to a size 6 and I have so much energy that I can keep up with my grandchildren. I no longer try on clothes after clothes trying to find something in my closet to fit.
